For the first time in the Company’s 45 year history, Sound Fighter® Systems, is adding a non-absorptive, or STC, sound wall product to its line: the SonaGuard® wide-span STC noise barrier system.
“While our legendary LSE® Absorptive Noise Barrier System remains one of the world’s top performing outdoor barriers,” says Murray Stacy, VP of Sound Fighter, “we wanted to expand our options for applications requiring barriers with very wide spans, or applications not requiring sound-absorption.”
“Although there is now strong research showing the consistent benefit of using sound absorbing panels, non-absorbing or STC barriers are still commonly specified on attenuation projects where reflective noise is not a concern.” Stacy continues. “To better serve our customer’s needs in these instances, we can now offer our SonaGuard® system as an option alongside our absorptive LSE® System.”
Another dilemma for the sound wall market in general is the steady increase in deflection and span requirements mandated by government.
Many of today’s DOT sound walls are specified with 10’ spans or wider, along with very high deflection requirements. “We wanted to complement our product mix with a strong and very durable STC sound wall panel that would meet these extreme deflection requirements at very wide spans.” Stacy adds. “Our SonaGuard® reinforced fiberglass sound panels provides this option for our customers.”
SonaGuard® sound panels have an STC of 35, which is above the required thresholds for the vast majority of outdoor sound barrier requirements. The panels have a maximum span capability of 18 feet, which is one of the widest noise barrier spans available.
The panels weigh only 5 lbs per sq/ft, making them lightweight enough for use on weight-sensitive structures like bridges or rooftops. And the long-term durability of pultruded reinforced fiberglass in harsh outdoor environs is well documented over decades.
“Between the renowned absorptive performance and durability of our LSE® System, and the very wide span and STC performance of our new SonaGuard® System, we can now provide a proven solution for just about any noise barrier application imaginable.” concludes Stacy.
