For those looking to build an outdoor shooting range or add soundproofing to an existing range, our sound mitigation technology has been proven to reduce firearm-related noise levels.
The decibel levels that a gun makes can have a negative effect on surrounding neighborhoods. acoustically-designed firing range helps reduce how far you can hear gunshots.
Our outdoor range mitigation strategy minimizes noise pollution by utilizing intelligently placed sound-reducing structures. Typically this involves the use of sound barrier walls that block and absorb the noise, limiting the amount of sound that escapes the range.
The soundproof treatment of the firing line offered by Sound Fighter Systems has been successfully deployed to satisfied clients. A case study out of Grandview, IL shows how our product can effectively reduce the impact of excessive gun-related noise in a community.
The Noise Problem in Grandview
In August 2014, the city of Grandview voted for a No-Tax Increase Bond Issue for public safety projects. The project included a plan for a new shooting range at the Grandview Ballpark. Its funds were allocated in September 2018, industry leader TRS Range Services was hired to design and build the range, and construction was completed the following August.
A few weeks later, the Grandview Police Department conducted firearms training over two days, prompting nearby citizens to express concerns about the noise.
Due to the complaints, To resolve the issue, acoustic engineers were called in from AVANT Acoustics, an Acoustical Engineering firm dedicated to enhancing experiences through acoustics and AV design. After these experts conducted a sound study to better understand the problem, they held an open house so that the community could gather to consider their options.
This open house resulted in the application of our sound walls to fix the issue in Grandview and help to mitigate the noise pollution from the city’s shooting range by constructing sound barrier walls throughout the property.
A Case in Mitigating Sound Pollution
The goal of the project was to reduce the noise at the new range to levels comparable to or less than those of the old range. To accomplish this, sound barrier walls were installed in specific locations around the property and AVANT Acoustics measured the differences in decibel levels between the old and new range, after we stepped in.
The collection of the data led to some interesting results:

1. The New Range Had Higher Decibel Levels than the Old Range
Point 1 rose from 77 dB to 89 dB (+12), point 2 from 84 dB to 94 dB (+10), point 3 from 80 dB to 88 dB(+8), and point 4 from 86 dB to 89 dB (+3). This means an increase of 8.25 dB on average.
The measurements made by AVANT Acoustics demonstrated that the new outdoor gun range that had been built by the city had higher levels than the old one at every measured location on the site.
Pre-treatment sound measurements at the new site were measurably higher from the gunshot decibels that were measured than the old range. The post-treatment measurements demonstrated dramatic overall noise reduction.
2. After Noise Barrier Wall Installation Had Lower Levels than Before
Point 1 was lowered to 76 dB (-13), point 2 was lowered to 73 dB (-19), point 3 was lowered to 70 dB (-18), and point 4 was lowered to 72 dB (-17). The noise barrier walls provided a decrease of 16.75 dB on average.
The measurements indicate that the new outdoor gun range had lower levels after the sound barrier walls were erected.
Our noise barrier walls effectively managed noise pollution by providing a layer of noise absorption around the properties’ most vital points. This led to significantly reduced gunshot decibel levels.
3. The New Levels Were Reduced Compared to the Old Range
The decreases in sound pollution that were measured extended to the old range, providing a better experience in gun range soundproofing.
On average, the installation of the soundproof shooting box reduced the gunshot decibel by up to 25.5 percent.
These results clearly portray the effectiveness of our sound-absorptive treatments.
The sound mitigation techniques utilized by this project highlight the definitive value gained from Sound Fighter Systems’ sound wall.
Examining how these levels were reduced by our products sheds light on how our innovative technologies can help you implement effective gun range soundproofing to limit the gunshot decibels that are outside your outdoor shooting range.

Good morning
About 18 months ago I built an outdoor shooting range on my somewhat rural land. Just recently a neighbor complained about the noise to authorities and their test showed that we were at 84db in an area where the maximum is 75db. I am interested in finding a way to mitigate the noise to a point at which I am in compliance. Typically we shoot most Sunday mornings for about 90 minutes and most always we shoot pistols. Occasionally a couple shotguns.
Is this something that you might have an interest in discussing and possibly helping to resolve. I live in Syracuse NY. Thank you very much for your time.

I’m dealing with same thing. Looking at maybe shooting out of Home Depot wood shed and line it with outdoor sound blankets or something similar. Also looking at rugged deer blinds that could have soundproofing materials hung inside. Would be great to have modular solution that’s affordable.

Great post! I’m really interested in trying out this outdoor soundproof shooting box. As an avid hunter, I know how important it is to be able to silence my gun and not disturb any wildlife nearby. The idea of being able to do this without sacrificing any of the fun or challenge of hunting is incredible. I’m definitely going to give this a try!
