One of our more recent ventures is creating sound walls for companies that explore for and produce oil and natural gas. As America works to become self-reliant for energy, we are finding out that traditional sound-reflective concrete sound walls no longer do the trick of deterring unwanted sound.
For this build, we worked with oil and gas companies that utilize large air-cooled compressors vital to keeping natural resources moving through the pipeline.
With several strict requirements, our goal was to find an acoustic barrier system that fit the scope of the project and solves each issue while maintaining an appealing design and providing easy access for workers.
Scope and Requirements For Oil and Gas Noise Pollution
- Minimizing the constant hum of equipment
- Using the topography to aid in noise elimination
- Absorbing nuisance frequencies
- Creating a visually appealing visual barrier
- Customizing the enclosures with access points — man-doors and vehicle gates
Natural Gas Compressor Station Design
Simply blocking sound is no longer a sufficient mitigation option for companies. The need to eliminate noise near the source is vital to staying compliant with local and federal regulations. In the scope of this project, we used our sound panels.
This system is our elite product providing a durable, lightweight, innovative system that minimizes sound without the need for specialized buildings and enclosures the routine maintenance headaches associated with buildings.
Our materials and systems are maintenance-free, corrosion-free, and visually appealing. After collaboration with the project’s acoustic engineer, we created a 20-foot SonaGuard wall coated with our superior UV paint and a shiplap design.
Designing Sound Walls To Eliminate Specific Frequency Levels
Our SonaGuard panels are given a Noise Absorption Coefficient or NRC rating of 1.05. A rating of 1.0 is considered 100% sound-absorptive, while a rating of zero is considered 100% sound-reflective.
Because this particular project site required vehicle access in and out of the enclosure, it was vital that the man and vehicle doors not minimize the mitigation effectiveness of the barrier.
The vehicle gates were 20-feet by 20-feet on swings for ease-of-use. The absorptive panels have spherical perforations for two crucial reasons:
The innovative design reduces annoying frequencies better than elongated slits. And they add physical strength to the panels allowing us to use them in spans of as much as 24-feet in this application.
How Sound Fighter Saves Companies Thousands Of Dollars Each Year
Since we can create longer spans of material, our installation costs are lower keeping and completion dates quicker. With the ease of installation, our system allows the client to save thousands of dollars in labor and foundation costs.
Our tongue and groove design simplifies the installation process using wide-span panels for any barrier size or shape. With little to no maintenance and decades of performance using corrosion-free materials and paint, the customer the cost of installing a new sound wall every 15 to 20 years.
Durability, Aesthetics and Versatility In One Revolutionary System
Our fiberglass wall panels fit this application perfectly because the high-quality materials are weather-proof, do not rust, hold up under heavy wind loads, and only weigh five pounds per square foot.
Aesthetically appealing systems are just a portion of the science behind our revolutionary wall systems. This project let us customize a solution that fits into the natural surroundings, appeals to residents, and provides the best sound absorption capabilities.
Compressor Noise Reduction
The need for specific vehicle entry points was a big concern for many oil and natural compression stations, but the strength of the material and ability to create large wall spans up to 18-feet make access much easier.
The client required swing gates that were 20-feet tall and 20-feet wide to accommodate oversized maintenance equipment, drilling machinery, and other construction equipment.
Our goal is to adapt our products to meet every goal and requirement of the the customer in terms of noise mitigation, cost, appearance, longevity, and durability.

The application of our fiberglass panels on this gas compressor site in Pennsylvania shows the versatility of the SonaGuard panels.
Our noise barriers essentially kill the dominant nuisance frequencies emanating from the compressors and coolers, keeping the noise from interfering in everyday life for nearby residents and coworkers.
The barrier’s durability and maintenance-free design improve the quality of life for locals and business owners.
